Biography

Dr. David A. Kaufman, MD, is an academic neonatologist whose research focuses on the prevention and treatment of neonatal infections. He has designed and conducted randomized controlled trials, including landmark work demonstrating the efficacy and safety of fluconazole prophylaxis for the prevention of invasive Candida infections in extremely preterm infants.

Dr. Kaufman’s broader research interests include outcomes in extremely preterm infants, delivery room stabilization, early neonatal management during the first week of life, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and hypoxic–ischemic encephalopathy. His work integrates clinical research with bedside practice to improve short- and long-term outcomes for high-risk newborns.

He is committed to translating clinical experience into research and acknowledges the important role of bedside clinicians and families in shaping his understanding of neonatal care and improving patient outcomes.
