Biography
Professor Richard A. Polin, MD, is the William T. Speck Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York. He served as Director of the Division of Neonatology at Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian from 1998 to 2019 and has held numerous academic and clinical leadership positions throughout his distinguished career in neonatal–perinatal medicine.
Professor Polin is internationally recognized for his contributions to neonatal medicine, medical education, and clinical research. He has authored more than 200 original peer-reviewed publications, over 20 textbooks and reference works, and more than 200 scientific abstracts. His academic leadership has been acknowledged through numerous national awards, including the American Academy of Pediatrics' National Neonatal Education Award. He has also served as Chair of the Sub-board of Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine and currently chairs the Executive Steering Committee of the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Neonatal Research Network.
As a member of the Steering Committee of the International Newborn Sepsis Society, Professor Polin contributes his extensive expertise in neonatal clinical care, research, and education to advance international collaboration and improve the prevention, diagnosis, and management of neonatal sepsis.
