Biography
Professor Eric Giannoni, MD, is a neonatologist at the University Hospital of Lausanne, Switzerland. After completing his medical training in Switzerland, he undertook a clinical and research fellowship in neonatal and perinatal medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
Professor Giannoni's research focuses on neonatal sepsis and innate immunity, integrating experimental, translational, and clinical approaches to better understand host–pathogen interactions in early life. He leads collaborative initiatives aimed at improving the early detection and diagnosis of neonatal sepsis and promoting responsible antibiotic stewardship in newborn care.
He is actively engaged in international efforts to advance evidence-based neonatal medicine and reduce the global burden of neonatal sepsis. Since 2022, he has served as Chair of the Infection, Inflammation, Immunology and Immunization section of the European Society for Paediatric Research. As a member of the Steering Committee of the International Newborn Sepsis Society, he contributes to strengthening global collaboration and research in neonatal sepsis.
